Vi välkomnar er till höstens konferens. I år träffas vi i Växjö och temat för konferensen är ”Det viktiga samarbetet mellan hemmet och montessoriförskolan/skolan.” Det blir både föreläsningar och workshop där vi kan dela med oss av våra erfarenheter.

Beskrivning av föreläsarna:
Tiina Suominen trained in Denver with Judi Orion and Maria Teresa Vidales for her Assistant to Infancy AMI diploma and in Washington D.C. with Hildegart Soltzbacher for her 3-6 AMI diploma. Tiina is an AMI Montessori Teacher Trainer for the ages of 0-3 and has been working with children of the ages 0-6 for more than 20 years. Tiina runs her own Montessori school, Mammolina, in Helsinki, Finland.
Outi Leiste is an AMI Montessori Elementary Teacher Trainer for the ages of 6–12. She holds a Masters degree in Education from the University of Helsinki, an AMI 6–12 Diploma from Bergamo, Italy, and an AMI 3-6 Diploma from Helsinki, Finland.
Outi has worked as an assistant at AMI Montessori 6-12 Diploma courses in San Diego and Dublin and has given Montessori 6-12 Orientation courses for both the French (Institut Supérieur Maria Montessori) and Estonian (Eesti Montessori Instituut) Montessori Institutes.
Outi has more than 25 years of experience in both 6–9 and 9–12 Montessori environments. Since 2009 she has been a member of the board of the Finnish Montessori Society.

Lectures on Saturday and Sunday will be held at Uppsala Konsert och Kongress on Vaksala Torg 1. Registration is located on the ground floor and lectures will be held in the large conference hall on level 3.
Safety regulations prohibit suitcases and bags larger than A4 in the conference halls. Please leave your luggage at your hotel on Saturday. Luggage may be checked on Sunday. There is a staffed room for your coats on both days.

Jip Bartels
Trainer for Montessori Sports

Jip Bartels is a Montessori Sports Trainer and former professional player for the AFC Ajax youth academy and Dutch national youth teams. Jip brings over 20 years of experience as an athlete and youth coach and also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Amsterdam. After developing and pioneering Montessori Sports Programmes in Australia, Jip has continued the global mission of Montessori Sports from his home in Amsterdam alongside colleagues Ruben Jongkind and Patrick Oudejans. Jip also holds AMI 6-12 Montessori Orientation as well as AMI Administration Certificates. Jip is a social and disciplined man who believes that sports is a key to develop the human potential. Montessori Sports is the strategic partner of the Association Montessori Internationale. The aim is to bring a student-centered approach to sports environments and to integrate sports into the core of child development.
Carla Foster
AMI Director of Training 6-12

Carla Foster is one of the current AMI Directors of Elementary Training at Montessori Training Center Northeast (MTCNE), USA and the Montessori Institute of Prague. She also works permanently at the University College of Vestfold in Norway. Carla holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Social Anthropology, Old Icelandic Literature and Norwegian Literature from UC Berkeley. She has AMI 3-6 and 6-12 diplomas from the Maria Montessori Training Organization, in London, and the Montessori Institute of Milwaukee, USA. She has worked with children at the levels of 3-6 and 6-12, has lived and taught in Norway since 1995, and has been an elementary AMI Trainer since 2011. She enjoys speaking about Cosmic Education, storytelling, drama, music, geometry and the transitioning child from Primary to Elementary. Carla was a keynote speaker at the 2017 AMI International Congress in Prague. Carla has lectured and worked on courses in the US, Europe and India.
Steven Hughes
Pediatric neuropsychologist

Dr. Steven Hughes is a pediatric neuropsychologist and psychotherapist with over twenty-five years of professional experience. He specializes in assessment of attention, learning, and behavioral disorders in children, adolescents, and adults, and offers Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for persons suffering from problems with mood, anxiety, and behavioral disorders. Dr. Hughes has spoken to groups all over the world on subjects such as brain development, diagnosis and treatment of learning and attention problems, and environmental conditions (at home, school and work) that support the optimal growth of higher-order cognitive functions and the developmental benefits of Montessori pedagogy. Dr. Hughes spent ten years as a faculty member of the Division of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, and was the founding chair of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Global Research Committee, and has served as president of the American Academy of Pediatric Neuropsychology. His research interests are in the areas of environmental enrichment, creativity, self-regulation, and executive functioning, and the role that early childhood education can play in promoting the growth of these essential capabilities. Dr. Hughes is based in Prague, Czech Republic.
Judith Orion
AMI Director of Pedagogy

Judith Orion, M.A. is the Director of Pedagogy for AMI and the AMI Director of Training for 0-3 and 3-6. Judith holds the AMI Early Childhood (3-6) diploma and received her Assistants to Infancy (0-3) diploma at the first AMI training for that level, given in Rome. Judi has conducted Primary and Infancy Montessori classes and is a trainer, examiner, and consultant at both levels. She conducts teacher training internationally and is a national and international seminar presenter at Montessori conferences. Judith is an adjunct faculty member of Loyola University in Maryland. She was also Director of Training for the first 0-6 AMI Diploma course. Judith has held numerous positions at AMI serving as a board member and on both the Training Group and Scientific Pedagogy Group. Judith is Head of AMI’s Training Division and has overseen the enormous expansion of the AMI Training of Trainers program. Judith was also a plenary speaker at the 29th International Montessori Congress in 2023.
Elina Rautasalo
AMI Montessori Trainer 3-6

Elina Rautasalo is an AMI 3-6 Teacher Trainer with over 30 years of experience in the field of education, working with both children and adults in her native Finland and abroad. Her Montessori journey began in London in the early 1990s at the Maria Montessori Institute, where she gained her AMI 3-6 Diploma. Subsequently, Elina was a member of the MMI’s training team for over 20 years. Elina has served as the chair of Montessori Society AMI (UK) and as a council member of Montessori Education UK. She is an AMI examiner and lectures internationally. She has given seminars and workshops in various countries in Europe, as well as in Asia, North and South America. Elina has directed AMI’s 3-6 courses in the UK, Thailand, Vietnam, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Estonia. At present, Elina is Director of Training at the International Montessori Institute in the Netherlands and Instituto de Educação Maria Montessori in Portugal. In addition to her work as a teacher trainer, Elina supports Montessori schools through mentoring and consultation.
Madlena Ulrich
AMI Director of Training 3-6

Madlena Ulrich is the Program Director for the AMI 3-6 Teacher Training at the University of South-Eastern Norway. She has a degree as Preschool Teacher in Norway and took her AMI 3-6 training in Dublin, Ireland in 1994-95. She worked as the lead teacher in the Children’s House of Tønsberg Montessori, a 0-15 environment situated in Eastern Norway, for more than 15 years and was actively involved in the development of the school. She has been a member of the Norwegian Montessori Association and much of her work is focused on the continued development of Montessori schools in Norway. She did her AMI Training of Trainers with Molly O’Shaughnessy in Minnesota, USA and Ulla Wikefeldt in Sweden. Since 2010 she has been training students in Norway, where she works in close collaboration with Carla Foster (AMI 6-12 trainer), in addition to training in China, Thailand, Russia and Romania. Madlena also frequently lectures at conferences worldwide.
Dr. Ulrika Ådén
Neonatal specialist

Ulrika Ådén has worked at the Joanna Cocozza Professorship in Pediatrics at Linköping University since 2022. Previously, she served as Neonatal Physician and research scientist, as well as Chief Physician for the Department of Neonatology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Her research has focused on the fetal and newborn brain before and during the early period after birth, particularly on injuries that may have consequences for the child as they grow up, and she has endeavored to identify possibilities to reduce the risks of negative effects. Understanding Ulrika Ådén’s research and its outcomes provides valuable insights into how we, in Montessori schools and preschools, can best care for children and support them in their optimal development. Her research also highlights the foresight of Dr. Maria Montessori in her observations and theory-building over a century ago. In her free time Ulrika enjoys playing chamber music in a string quartet.

Den 31 augusti 2020 var 150-årsdagen av Maria Montessoris födelse.
Dr. Montessori var långt före sin tid i sin forskning, i hur hon närmade sig pedagogik och i sitt banbrytande arbete för sociala reformer.
Montessoriarbetet fortsätter även idag att motivera människor som vill förändra världen till det bättre och den har påverkat livet för barn och pedagoger i mer än 110 år.
För att uppmärksamma dessa 150 år, och visa sitt stöd för
FN:s Barnkonvention, har skolor under hösten dokumenterat
barnens tolkningar av några av dessa rättigheter.
Utvalda bidrag från hela världen publiceras av AMI Internationale.

AMI Global har i samarbete med BBC Story Works (ingår i BBC Global News) producerat två korta dokumentärfilmer som vi hoppas ni vill titta på och även dela med er av till era skolor, kollegor, föräldrar etc.
Filmerna gjordes i USA, som en del i ett projekt, för att öka antalet AMI-utbildade lärare i USA.
AMI Trainers Molly O’Shaugnessy och Liza Davis medverkar och filmerna är både inspirerande och informativa.

Frihet och ansvar

Välkomna till vårens konferens den 16 mars 2024 i Albatross Montessoriskola på Lidingö. Ämnet är ”Frihet och Ansvar”.
Ett viktigt ämne och ibland svårt att arbeta med.
Ger vi barnen frihet? Ger vi barnen ansvar?
Lagom mycket frihet och ansvar – vad är det?
Carin Bergsten är utbildad montessorilärare för 3-6 och arbetar på Uppsala Montessoriförskola, vänder sig till förskolan och talar om frihet och ansvar utifrån Maria Montessori egna ord i hennes böcker men också från andra föreläsningar som Carin har deltagit i. Hon kommer också att prata om sina egna erfarenheter i ämnet och även öppna för diskussion bland oss som deltar så att vi alla kan få bidra med våra särskilda problem och upplevelser och kan diskutera dem tillsammans.
Om åldrarna 6-12 föreläser Monica Shizuka Östergren och Denise Heath Nyberg, båda utbildade montessorilärare för åldrarna 6-12 och med lång erfarenhet. De arbetar på Vasastans Montessoriskola. De presenterar sin del av dagen så här:

Välkomna till en föreläsning och workshop kring ett stort tema inom Montessori i grundskolan: Frihet och Ansvar. Vad menas med Frihet och Ansvar? Är frihet och ansvar möjligt för alla barn? Hur förbereder vi en miljö som främjar frihet under ansvar? Vad har vi vuxna för frihet och ansvar?
Dessa frågor kommer vi att utforska tillsammans och vi hoppas att ni kommer med era tänkande hattar, lyssnande öron och öppna sinnen för att kollaborera med kollegor och nya vänner.
